After several months of repair, plastering and painting the Recreation Room at 400 McCowan, the youth crew who took on the project unveiled the new look to the residents at a special celebration on June 23rd.
About 50 residents came out to mark the occasion, share pizza and cake and congratulate the youth on their efforts. The young people were enthusiastic about their experience, speaking about learning new skills that they can take into the “real world” and meeting new friends. Terrill Williams-Brown, who used to live the building and is going to college next year, said he wants to come back and help the community.
The bright yellow room now provides a welcoming space for programs. This summer, YouthLink will offer a percussion group, guest speakers, movie nights and a drop-in and new programs are planned for the fall.
