The Big Sister Legacy Fund was established in 2008 to honour the dedication and commitment of the women who formed The Big Sister Association, which many years later evolved into YouthLink. The Fund provides scholarships, bursaries and practical aid to YouthLink clients to enable them to further their education through secondary, post-secondary or apprenticeship programs. Awards of up to $2,000 per applicant are made twice a year to youth who have demonstrated keen commitment and aptitude to continue their studies but do not have adequate financial resources The first awards were made in January 2009, and currently 10 young people have now received bursaries.
To be eligible, a candidate should:
be or have been a client of YOUTHLINK for at least six months
be between the ages of 16 to 24 years
demonstrate satisfactory academic performance
have been accepted into a secondary, post secondary, or apprenticeship program
How to apply
Please let your YouthLink counsellor or youth worker know that you would like to apply. They will give you an application form and help you complete it. You will need to include an income/expense statement for the academic year, two letters of reference (at least one from YouthLink staff) and a typed or handwritten summary of your achievements, interests and any extra-curricular activities.
Applications should be submitted by November 15 for the Winter Term and July 1 for the Fall Term.
