YOUTHLINK offers a range of residences with various locations throughout the City of Toronto. All are community-based settings with programs offering varying degrees of support. The support programs emphasize individual goal setting, peer counselling, groups, life-skills leading towards independence, while encouraging contact with community, family and support systems. Referral sources are varied, and reasons may include physical and/ or sexual abuse, conflict with parents/guardians, problems in school, substance abuse, anger management difficulties or mental health issues. Each referral is evaluated for suitability to ensure that the placement is successful.
YOUTHLINK Residence (females 14-18)
The Residence, located in the Annex, is a group home for twelve young women who are attending school, have a job or participate in a community program. The program is staffed 24 hours a day by professional youth workers. Counsellors and a clinical consultant, together with the youth workers, comprise the multidisciplinary team that works with the youth. The program has two components, separated physically within the house – one for young women who require a fair amount of support and direction; the other for young women who need less support and are preparing for semi-independence. Both components are offered to young women who are able to function in a community setting and are willing to participate in a treatment residence.
