We provide youth with brief and ongoing counselling, in-home wraparound support, shelter, housing, educational support, and safe drop-in spaces. Fee for Service Contract: Food Services Facilitator
(Temporary, Part-time 35 hours per week)
(Starting ASAP – 1 year contract)
The Food Services Facilitator will manage day-to-day food operations at YouthLink’s Transitional Housing and Shelter Program. The Food Services Facilitator will develop a “how to cook” manual as a resource for youth to increase their skills and understanding in these areas contributing to their financial and housing stability in the community.
Highlights of Your Role
- Responsible for the coordination and preparation of meals
- Ability to develop menus that have creative, nutritional and health meals
- Develop weekly menu that provides variety and meet dietary and cultural and/or religious practices(meets Shelter Standards)
- Support with weekly Second Harvest and Daily Bread deliveries
- Responsible for coordination of all food donation: receiving, sorting, storage and complete any paper work required for processing donation
- Assist in the facilitation of food and nutrition-focused life skills programming
- Complete any other tasks as required
- Communicates with Manager about any necessary information and participates in regular supervisions.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures of the organization.
- Participates in any workshops or trainings as required.
- Takes all reasonable precautions to protect own health and safety.
- Maintain hygiene and health and safety standards as required by legislation
- Communicate with staff and possibly residents in regards to nutrition, possible food allergies or specific food needs.
- Work effectively with residents, staff and volunteers
- Sign off on daily closing checklist
- Knows and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, recipes, policies and procedures.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area.
- Participates in the Agency’s commitment to a discrimination free environment
- Able to work within a team but also independently.

Takes all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect his or her own health and safety and that of co-workers by complying and demonstrating knowledge of the policies, procedures and safe practices established by YouthLink.
Highlights of What You Bring
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. College diploma in hospitality or other cooking school. Certificate in Cooking/Food Preparation and/or Kitchen Management, Hospitality, or equivalent training and/or prior experience working in a kitchen.
- Food Handler’s Certification.
Experience:
- Experience in food service industry
- Experience working with youth is an asset.
- Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience working independently and within a large team
- First Aid and CPR Certification would be an asset
- Lived experience, knowledge and understanding and knowledge of systemic barriers and oppression rooted in colonization, racism, transphobia, classism, misogyny, moralism, ableism, and how they impact young people.
- Operates using and Anti- Black Racism /Anti- Oppression lens and strength based frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to problem – solve individually or in a team setting.
- Proficient computer use skills.
- Lived experience or knowledge of community an asset.
- Previous experience in Shelter or Residential environments is an asset.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to obtain a Broad Record Police Check.
- Medical clearances including proof of 2 Step TB tests required.
- Able to work in a pet friendly environment.
Service Hours: 35 hours per week.
Service Period: Starting ASAP
Service Rate of Pay: $25.00 per hour.
