Peer Support Leader

2 vacant positions

(Temporary, Part-time, 20 hours/week)

(Starting ASAP – December 31st, 2023)

Non-Bargaining Unit Position

We are seeking a dynamic peer support leader who is committed to engaging black and racialized youth in sexual health education/resources and workshops to assist them in building resiliency, positive sexual health choices and better address relationship violence to reduce STI’s and increase positive intimate partner relationship and decision making.

Your Role

  • Provide one-on-one supports/ and referrals to youth
  • Referrals and accompaniment to sexual health clinics
  • Outreach within various Scarborough communities
  • Create and facilitate workshops that respond to various learning styles
  • Create a safe and inclusive space for youth
  • Evaluate and tailor workshops to meet the needs of youth
  • Assist with project evaluation
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to co-facilitate group sessions
  • Engage youth during workshop delivery
  • Attend weekly and monthly team and partner meetings
  • Other duties as assigned                                                                              

What You Bring

Education and Experience:

  • Experience providing one-on-one peer support
  • Experience facilitating workshops and creating presentations
  • An understanding of the strengths and capacities of, as well as the barriers and challenges faced by Scarborough black and racialized youth, with a particular focus on factors affecting youth sexual health and intimate relationship violence  from diverse cultural backgrounds in low-income communities
  • Knowledge on STI’s and appropriate community resources
  • Familiar with using technology to present information in an engaging manner
  • Ability to learn database systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills including ability to build meaningful rapport with staff, volunteers, project partners and youth participants
  • Knowledge of Anti-Black racism and the impact on youth

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated skill in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practices, and specifically using an Anti-Black Racism lens.

Work location(s): 596 Danforth Road, Scarborough & 3545 Kingston Road, Scarborough.

Program: Plan A before Plan B Project

Work Hours:  20 working hours per week.  This position requires evening hours.

Fee for Service:  $15.50 per hour
