Manager, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC)
(Permanent Part-time, 17.5 hours/week)
As the Manager, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), you will be part of a senior team who share a passion for achieving social justice for youth. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Youth Transitional Housing and Shelter Program, you will ensure the health and safety of the Shelter at YouthLink. This individual is responsible for the infection prevention and control (IPAC) practices and protocols related to communicable disease prevention, hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, data collection and trend analysis, reporting protocols and outbreak management.
- Act as a point of contact for Infection Prevention and Control issues and act as an ongoing liaison with the City of Toronto for IPAC initiatives.
- Ensure organizational management and front line staff are provided with all relevant directives, communications and guidance from SSHA in relation to IPAC, and ensuring full implementation.
- Manage and supervise team in the performance of duties and provide recommendations to the senior management.
- Ensure that IPAC is given appropriate consideration as a standing item during existing Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings.
- Act as Management Chair for central Health & Safety committee for the agency.
- Create and maintain all relevant agency IPAC policies and procedures and provides recommendations for program-specific requirements to senior management.
- Manage IPAC resources, information and training to all relevant organizational staff to ensure the most up to date practices are established and operationalized.
- Coordinate immediate remediation of any IPAC related deficiencies identified by SSHA’s contracted IPAC specialists, SSHA’s quality assurance team, or any other recognized inspection authority.
- Coordination of outbreak response, and leading all required collaboration with Toronto Public Health as part of outbreak management.
- Participate in all required training as directed by SSHA.
- Remain current with technical knowledge/standards and emerging trends in safety and any functions related to IPAC.
- Other duties and special projects as may be assigned.

What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Social Work, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control certification endorsed by IPAC Canada (preferred) or Infection Prevention and Control Core Competencies (minimum requirement) and/or Certification in Infection Control (CIC) an asset.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in infection control required; Experience in infection prevention and control in congregate settings is an asset.
- Experience working with homeless or marginalized people in a community-based setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant Infection Prevention & Control standards (i.e. PIDAC, CSA, Accreditation standards, regulations and guidelines) and demonstrated ability to integrate this knowledge into congregate living settings.
- Knowledge of the nature and processes of congregate living associated infections and outbreaks, in addition to investigatory and medical surveillance procedures, documentation and standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of privacy standards and the ability to manage confidential client information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including drop in participants, staff of all levels, partners and government program representatives.
- Coursework that demonstrates your desire for continual learning in Equity, Diversity and Belonging practices.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, able to instruct on IPAC principles and inspire individuals to abide by IPAC guidelines.
- Excellent leadership, administrative and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated skill in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practices, and specifically using an Anti-Black Racism lens.
- Highly organized, with exceptional knowledge in IPAC, and using tools to track and report progress.
- Exceptional judgement; ability to analyze information quickly in order to prioritize and communicate emerging issues.
- Innate understanding of IPAC standards, regulations, policy, etc.
