Walk-In & Intake Worker – Client Care

(Permanent Part Time, 28 hours/week)

Bargaining Unit Position

This position is responsible for delivering exceptional client service and assistance; leading the smooth operation of the WUWI Service, creating a welcoming Triage experience for clients wanting to access WUWI. This position completes walk-in registration, a brief intake and coordinates same day service. In addition this position fields inquiries from potential clients as well as other service providers, advocacy and consultation for youth aged 0 -24 years and their families/caregivers. 

This position works collaboratively with a team of clinicians to provide seamless same day, single session counselling, virtually and at YouthLink’s head office. 

Your Role

  • Supports walk-in counselling service: provides a triage experience prior to same day counselling service; greets clients, determines eligibility, provides orientation to YouthLink, reviews risks and benefits, organizes forms, provides estimated wait times, determines presenting issues and schedules same day appointment.
  • Responds to telephone, drop in and email enquiries, determines appropriateness for YouthLink services, makes referrals to other community and internal resources. Intervenes in crisis situations, providing in-person and phone support as needed to youth and caregivers who reach out.
  • Facilitates engagement into ongoing counselling services when requested.
  • Communicates with counsellors on WUWI shift regarding assigned clients, downloads MHTO referrals for clinicians viewing, and completes contact notes, case file notes, enters assessed needs, manages data in YouthLink’s EHR system, entering all BI required data.
  • Attends events in the community to increase awareness of YouthLink, the Counselling program and the walk in service. Attends community committees and meetings and participates in inter-agency and collaborative partnerships.    
  • Develops professionally through supervision, team meetings, case consultation, external training events and being a member of committees.               
  • Actively contributes to the Agency’s Strategic Plan by participating in initiatives and committees to support the overall Plan. This includes continual learning and growth in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Takes all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect his or her own health and safety and that of co-workers by complying and demonstrating knowledge of the policies, procedures and safe practices established by YouthLink.
  • All other job duties as required.

What You Bring


  • Undergraduate Degree in Social Work, Psychology or directly related discipline or a combination of directly relevant education and experience.
  • Member in good standing with a relevant governing body is an asset.


  • Two (2) years’ experience working directly with youth and families in a mental health setting.
  • Solid knowledge of mental health issues, individual and family therapy modalities.
  • Working knowledge of diversity, anti-oppression, familiarity with operating from an Anti-Black Racism lens.
  • Well versed in trauma informed practices and crisis intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of community services, relevant legislation, social issues and crisis support services.


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven administrative ability to manage and organize data and databases.
  • Demonstrated skills in using a variety of software programs.

Hours of Work:

  • This position requires the incumbent to work 28 hours per week, Monday to Saturday, to accommodate client traffic.
  • A set schedule will be ideal for both parties with the understanding that scheduled days may change, with notice, due to operational need. In addition, this position requires flexibility for the incumbent to work 2 evenings per week.

Working Conditions:

  • There are some risks involved in this position such as crisis management. 
  • Minimal travelling required.

Salary Range: $ 46,298 – 52,450 (to be pro-rated on hours worked)
